Love needs belief.

If Only

If only you could see, what I can see,

if you could trust  the love I have for thee,

your heart might be reclaimed, and beat again

in hope and joy, that I could be your man.

If only you could share your hope with me

be whole, and let our spirits fly so free,

you might just find the very dream you’ve sought

but which has thus far only come to nought.

This one hurts to read. Belief is important, trust is too but healing is needed before one can open that door again. It's not always a broken heart that needs healing, sometimes it's a broken mind that won't allow itself to even consider putting one's self at risk again. What a heartbreaking and honest poem.

ah, my second ex...even now we talk about this...the dreams we tried to share, the resistance from her...the anger she had within that wouldn't let her trust love.

this poem is such a perfect expression of that fear of commitment.
at least from her side of the coin.
