My Sad Norwegian

My Sad Norwegian

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Losing love.

"

My Sad Norwegian

You stood forlorn

on Halden harbour

gazing wistfully

over Sauøysundet.

You shed your seven tears

and I my skin

as your sadness fell

and mingled with the salty ocean.

So I came to your calling,

the sorrowful refrain

of a hollow breast

unfulfilled.

Of a life of parched pain,

without dreams,

dried and cracked and loveless

and lacking purpose.

And I slipped from my safe waters

and took you in my arms.

Offered to cradle your love

in my own,

to honour and protect you.

I listened to all the promises

you kept in your trinket box

and believed every one,

until you returned my soul

and banished me once more

to the depth of loneliness.

Seven tears to summon a Selkie.

Beautiful language, especially the way it sounds when spoken aloud, and it flows like the rolling waves of the ocean. The way it is constructed perfectly fits the theme.

Indeed the Selkie. Many thanks
Seasons in the Sun---good song....

i like this poem....seeing someone so sad, we automatically want to save that person...an.d yet often it is just a lure...because that person will break our heart....she wants the drama---and we fall for it..

i have had similar situations to this....met women going through break ups....trying to rebound...fell for it....helped them to feel better about themselves and then poof...i was left...
had my seasons in the sun and in the shade also.

Thank you Jacob. We are such fools to fall for it but can't help ourselves.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
