Open Your Eyes

Open Your Eyes

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

We dare not see.

"

Open Your Eyes

When winter days are simply cold

and children are too old

to believe,

what is left

for us to measure,

to treasure

in life?

Yet we go through motions

as if they are potions

that will lead

to our recovery

from the discovery

of truth.

Only to find

that we are blind

as bats

for where

we dare

not look is love.

"Yet we go through motions
as if they are potions
that will lead
to our recovery
from the discovery
of truth" - a fine observation John on the loss of an innocence - once we see that 'truth' there is no going back really. We can fool ourselves and pretend. This part reminded me of the shadows we might see at night (where a simple hat and coat on a stand can be an evil guy waiting on us) but when our eyes widen - more light let in - shadows diss-assembled (we realise it is just superficial clothing plus an over active imagination). Once seen - we wont be fooled again.

How does love overlook we poets? Perhaps its like this: "People need lighthouses. People like lighthouses. Not too many don't like lighthouses lol. The lighthouse as long as it works when we need it (in times of fog or dark) is grand. BUT - heres the rub - not too many people want to go see a lighthouse and hang around a lighthouse - dare I say it 'love' a lighthouse, live in a lighthouse. Lighthouse keepers are often lonely - happy in the knowledge that they are doing a life-saving job. Its a choice in some ways."
- sorry J, my analogy skills are poor prior to caffiene intake :)

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
