LamentA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenLament Therein lies the roots of my destruction, a weakness that sees me crumble in the teeth of the gale of attention lavished by a woman upon this wretched heart. My unworthy, catholic self is easily flattered into opening my being to such bold attentions, the parched pain that has long wracked my soul and cast me into the arid desert of disappointment time and time again has left the deepest scars upon my flesh. I drop my natural guard and offer up my breast to the sharpened stake of voluptuous desire, and overwhelmed by the touch and the taste and the fragrance, I submit to the power of that carnal craving. And so here I am playing with fire once more as if an infant who has never learned not to be touching kettles.
