Complicit!A Poem by John Alexander McFadyenWe stand by and watch!Complicit! None of us are immune from disease or pestilence, the rats that scurry in secret below our feet, the lice that invade the heads of our children or the bed bugs that steal from their harborages to feed on our blood as we sleep. And yet all of these I would choose before the insincerity of human serpents, ahead of the cruelty and the heinous deeds that man inflicts upon his brother and upon this good Earth. And for what? Because he want a bigger share, or wants to dominate and control, or is afraid that free thinking men might usurp his command and smite his ill intent, grasping hands. That so many right minded folk are kept in check by the red brick fellows as easily as the fascists or fundamentalists, is testament to man's weakness, his inability to stand before his god and declare himself free from the shadow of his own demise.
