Life's Passing

Life's Passing

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Why?

"

Life's Passing

I have dug honest peat

from life's bog.

I have ploughed and tilled

this earth with careful, calloused hands,

and tended my flock

with the eye of an eagle

and the jaws of a wolf.

And yet here I stand,

alone,

upon barren land

where nothing grows

and no one cares.

Don't worry about old age.It doesn't last long!. We are all autumn leaves in life and we all die alone and don't worry everyone dies in the end. But yes you work so hard for your labours for your kin to leave the nest and with nature that's it. Life is sexually transmitted and that's it!!

WOW this is a sad write but also so very true, we all grow up and then go off and tend to our own families and then they grow and go off to tend to their family ..and so it continues...i guess we all end up alone with nothing left to tend too..or i guess we end up then being the ones needing tendered too !!

Exactly Sereena. Many thanks!
Wow, such an ugly metaphor for life, but one that in the right (or wrong) mindset can ring so true. Usually the sentiment express in the poem's closing is done with such bitterness, I don't see that here, nor disillusionment; just sober reflection.

Tis about a parent's journey until their kids fly the nest. And yes sober reflection sums it well. T.. read more
i really liked your poem thought it was amazing but i felt like you should have continued it. Idk, I just felt like it was kinda abrupt. Unless that's what you want and in that case it's perfect. I just would have like to hear more. Also, (just an idea) I think it would be cooler if you put an ellipse after the word stand. Just idea you dont need to have that. Anyways I rreally liked it well writen.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
