Get Real

Get Real

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Facing facts!

"

Get Real

I've put on weight!

I am devastated.

I eat once a day,

not always healthily mind you,

but not half bad;

and I rarely snack.

I do a rigorous, ninety minute,

gym session twice a week.

At home,

I exercise six days a week

with Sunday off for 'good behaviour'!

Four point six kilograms over

and my Body Mass Index up

from seventeen to nineteen

since January.

But hold!

I am guessing the daily beer

and whiskey is not helping,

but neither is the isolation,

the silence and the lonely nights.

yes, isolation and booze...can cause the weight...and add that to the weight of silence and lonely nights...and you need to throw out the scale.

The body needs 3 reasonable size meals and light snacks to maintain good health.
I wouldn't sweat it.

Beer and whiskey will put on weight almost faster than an ice cream sundae. I believe isolation and loneliness leads to depression....which often leads to staying at home with a bottle of whiskey as a friend. Don't be devastated about a few extra pounds. Be happy and the pounds will disappear almost as quickly as they appeared. Very honest poetry. Lydi**

Deeply biographical in more ways than one John. The observations are common enough to guys like us of a certain age (though not in poems, so Kudos for that mold-breeching writing) but the end of this one sends out a strong self-awareness of the need to maintin one's social 'pyhsique', if you will, because we are not beings of parts, but beings of one whole in synergy. When one part is neglected (albeit not by choice) the whole suffers. That is what makes this write stand out from the crowd, my friend. Its all too poignant.

As an aside, I think you should go for a personal trainers accreditation - it would certainly introduce you to more people (and fit gals...)
Thank you for sharing this much of yourself here today my friend.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
