Take the Pee out of Politics!

Take the Pee out of Politics!

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Fed up with electioneering!

"

Take the Pee out of Politics!

Why do the news channels

think us so dull and bereft

that all we want

before the looming election

is to be fed endless hours

of sound bites

and hollow promises

from insincere men

in grey suits

made from dull threads?

The same men

who act like squabbling

screeching seagulls

in the Commons;

wheeling over our heads

and diving into our pockets

to take our bread

before excreting liberally

upon our threadbare shirts.

The same 'redbrick'

toffs who fiddle their expenses

and year after year

simply move the deck chairs.

What is this collusion

between press and political parties

that relegates the real

news of the day

and fills our senses

with empty statistics?

Is this simply lazy journalism

for idle masters

in league with the practice

and theory of influencing

us and keeping us bound

in the chains of inertia

and servitude?

Sure thing!
Nice. 'Squabbling' perhaps being the most accurate phrase used here. I don't think the relationship between politicians and the media is quite so sinister though, our government is far too inept to ever recreate 1984!

LMSO! nice one!
It's the nature of our voyeuristic society, John. Politicians, and their aids, have come to discover that there are often ample opportunities to pull the microscope from 'hot' topics, such as ongoing wars, global struggles, rape and murder of fellow nations, and real issues on the home front, and shift it to petty bickering about who will do what, when and where it will be done to the masses. We get the same thing in Canada and even see it on a local level whenever there is a provincial election. I have stopped viewing news on television and have strayed from all the social networking sites (especially Twitter) and pick and choose the news I want to view from a number of online sources.

Sorry 'bout that. I really enjoyed your piece. It flowed nicely, was relevant in content, had some lines I may borrow when discussing politics with my friends, and spoke to me. Oh, love the title too!

Well thanks FTL
Talking heads....and they are not just around before an election. The US Presidential election is 18 months away and we have them on every channel every night. It is amazing to me they find sponsors! Very good rant here. Lydi**

Not ready for more of the same, John...will have to see who else gets into the race.
It's a business John. Give the viewers something juicy to talk about.
Except for you obviously. As long as they aren't biased in any way then there's no harm.
People should be informed on some level. Government is one of those necessary evils.
Even if you go into politics with good intentions, you can really do a great job, there's to much stacked against you. You're bound to piss someone off, and they'll likely write a poem about it.
