Listen

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

To a breaking heart.

"

Listen

The sound of sorrow

is hollow,

it is lifeless and empty

reverberating in

anguished cries

and tears squeezed

from an emptying heart.

Sorrow,

like a cold dark cave,

swallows all feeling,

chilling emotion

and smothering the heat of life

until death feels

like the only welcome.
