Children

Children

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Why?

"

Children

One day you will dismantle my existence

and I will be gone.

Relegated to occasional,

fossilised memories.

Perhaps the odd photograph

will remain in a neglected computer file

of a father,

once lean and fit and articulate

but overshadowed by

the ink blot stains of sadness.

His misdemeanours remembered,

his spirit pushed into the dusty pages

of history.

A life you left behind,

without a backwards glance,

as you accelerated

towards your own demise.

Hi John , yep once the siblings leave the nest, everything goes at a fast pace and even though they don't call I'm sure you are in their thoughts. Just life is so frantic, high paced, youth is short and you just don't realize where the time goes... Its nearly May!

the cycle of life, and isn't it true that last statement, how we leave our childhood behind without a backwards glance unless it is to remember the faults of those we love, till we too die and be remembered.

It's difficult to fathom that the signifigance of our lives will be left within the hands of our children. Hopefully, by then, a lot of good will have rubbed off. We can only pray!

...simply gorgeous, John!

Very sad. It is often thus. And only once their own children grow will they reflect on the way things went.

The way of life I guess. Thanks 'M'
WOW, powerfully emotional and unfortunately all too true in many families. Children grow up and leave the nest without so much as a backward glance. They do not visit often or take into account their parents are growing older. How many mothers and fathers die a little faster because they are so lonely? And, yes, the children will be gone one day too. John, this is intense and I enjoyed it. Lydi**

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
