Saving Mary JaneA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenInjustice of biblical proportions!Saving Mary Jane You took the job. It was your passport to freedom. A new beginning, security for you and your two sons. Your background in the northern Philippines was poor. Your education lacking, your command of English woeful. To gain work in Malaysia as a maid was a God send for a struggling single mother. You were feted, given gifts to earn your gratitude and trust. Groomed into being the mule they designed to carry their heroin to Indonesia. You took the suitcase, another gift, but hidden in its lining your death sentence. And tomorrow they will shoot you like a dog and leave the traffickers free to corrupt another innocent life.
