Bali Nine Minus One!

Bali Nine Minus One!

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Injustice in Indonesia.

"

Bali Nine Minus One!

They carried the drugs,

no doubt about their guilt!

But they were not the architects

who designed the scheme,

they were not the bankers

who funded it.

Nor were they the ones

who grew, harvested, manufactured,

refined and supplied

the heroin, marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine.

Their hands did not build these empires,

nor profit to live as kings,

and yes they did wrong

if complicit.

But what price a mule's life

against a drug lord's freedom?

Praise God

that Mary Jane Veloso

was spared.

Hi John. Love the passionate response you have created here. two young men have lost their lives and yes, those at the top walked away ten years ago!!!! So wrong!! I love that have spoken for them, for their families and for what they may have become!! I shall be taking a look at other postings, but I think I already know I'm going to love what I find!!! alf

Thank you so much Alf.
I like the way you incorporate daily events - and such an emotive one - into poetry. It elevates our writings to not about our emotions, feelings or desires, but gives us a voice to speak into our society and its moral fabric - or in this case, the lack thereof. Great writing!

Many thanks SV
Your writing hit home big-time John as I have been watching these cases recently and wondering if it was all posturing by the Govt of Indonesia that they would execute them all soon.
Having watched a series called 'Banged up abroad' I can see how easy it is to be seduced by the dealers promises of easy money and little risk.
Well composed and thoughtful writing my friend.

Thanks Anto. Am watching the Guardian live news feeds and it is so distressing.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
