Make A Meal of ItA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenFood is good!
Make A Meal Of It
Lamb,
fresh,
succulent
and juicy;
sitting at rest
on the carving board,
infused
with garlic
and fresh rosemary
from the cottage garden.
Aromas that get our
gastric juices flowing
waft from the warm
bosom of Mother's kitchen.
Carved in moist slices
and served with
caramelised, roasted
vegetables
and roast potatoes,
browned to crisp
exterior perfection,
with fluffy, creamy
hearts.
A marinated red wine
gravy, flavoured with onion
and the fresh running
bloodied myoglobin
that flows in aromatic
rivers from cooked
red meat.
Accompanied by
a lovely fruity
Bordeaux,
Clos du Marquis 2001 St-Julien
will suffice
with its
lovely cassis fruit flavour,
intermixed with underbrush,
earth, and subtle background oak.
To follow,
the quintessential apple pie,
with its understated sweet tartness,
encased in a butter short crust pastry
and served with softly whipped cream.
For those with fortitude,
selected cheeses and biscuits,
with black grapes
with dark, rich chocolate,
peppermint thins
to end.
Now that's a Sunday lunch!

People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more.. |
