A Dying Form

A Dying Form

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Oh so hollow!

"

A Dying Form

So many poets on this

sorry Earth,

seeping from the woodwork

of the internet

with bleeding pens,

dripping in honey

and blood.

The iPhone, tablet

and the laptop

free us to be our

own word processors.

The arbitrators of the rhyme,

free verse and all poetic forms.

But so many platitudes

sustain mediocrity,

in fear of their own demise

and in so doing,

kill art.

Gee
magnificent, superb, brilliant and all manner of other overused shite is all to often attached to less than average writing on WC, mainly in the hope of gleaning a return review. If honesty reared its head more often the standard might rise, but on the down side of this, the so called poets start chucking their toys out of their poetic prams.
Whilst moaning far to many big themselves up on their biogs which is another source of irritation.
Anyway, less of my babbling, nails on head hit here

Tis kind to say so.
maybe all this technology just fools us into thinking we are artists...we now have mass production...letters on a screen--
no more quills, forming of the letters and words by hand---it is about quantity more than quality, at times...are we all murderers?

No one could have said this better John. I often laugh at myself, the world and the mechanical platitudes sustaining mediocrity... Poetry is now less art, more of a common, inexpensive diversion. Appreciated so much!
