Regression

Regression

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Oh to be young again!

"

Regression

Pear drops, lemon drops

and cola cubes,

all left behind

in the playground

of memories

that we cling to

when adulthood

becomes an impossible task.

When being a grown up

thrusts us,

at great velocity

into a world

where long hot summers,

with no concerns,

cannot be reached

across the barbed wire

of responsibilities

that are ours

when we are expected

to be mature individuals,

but our hearts

and our spirits

still long for

the shelter

of maternal love.

No matter how old we become, we will always feel the need for their love and protection. We are "thrusted, at great velocity" when WE become the parent - I remember thinking, whatever made me think I could do this! Lol, mature - yes, but never lose your spirit and heart to feel that inner child again!

Love your introspective pieces!

I think many feel the same but wear the masks society deems them to Kelly. Many thanks. Fly home in .. read more
who is expecting you to be mature? get rid of them ... who is asking you to grow up? why leave pear drops behind ... no way man ... the land of the long summer awaits ... come on over my side of the world where the surf is big, the summer long and the games last day and night.

I hear what you are saying, but we got to FIGHT THE POWER! :D

Enjoy your vacation and have some fun. You are welcome.
your words made me smile, for a topic so simple and already known and again and again realised, Your words were refreshing, i hope not honest but i know hoping that is just lying to yourself.

but our hearts

still long for
the shelter
of maternal love.

You summed up my opinion with the above delicate lines. This piece was endearing and very gentle with a glimpse of the harsher reality.

Thank you for sharing

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
