Gaseous Asphyxiation

Gaseous Asphyxiation

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Sometimes you don't see it coming.

"

Gaseous Asphyxiation

I could never have guessed

that the air was poisoned

with the carbon monoxide

of your deceit, derision and hatred.

It was an odourless gas

that seeped from your

every pore,

even as we touched,

even as we kissed,

even as we made

passionate 'love'

and I looked at you

and thought

you were forever.

It seeped insidiously

even as we lay asleep,

side by side.

and you pecked my cheek

as you left for the office

in the morning.

But worst of all

it seeped

from your flesh

as you held

our children.

John,

This is a “deeeep” and “emotionaaal” poem. Your analogy of the intrinsic details of betrayal is well shrouded with imagery to the point it cuts. The second stanza, damn, I mean all the stanza’s are penetrating but the one that went out the ballpark is –

But worst of all
it seeped
from your flesh
as you held
our children.

I’ve enjoy many poems in this site, I will not mention if its due to personal experience or not but this thus far is my favorite piece, thanks for sharing.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
