Yesteryear

Yesteryear

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

When we have such memories we know progress has been made and we are old!

"

Yesteryear

Old Oak

in dingy, dusty,

damp cellars.

Distemper covered walls

leading to a larder

and a tin opener.

Monochrome

flickering newsreel,

often interrupted

by power cuts.

Tram tracks sunk

into cobbled roads

where smoke,

coal tar perfumed,

spills from roof stacks

and permeates

terraced streets

where children play

in blissful ignorance.

Fish and chips

wrapped in

yesterday's news

of dole queues

and war.
