Soliloquy

Soliloquy

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Musing on life's path.

"

Soliloquy

I may be flawed

but it's because of

my genes,

my upbringing

and my lived experience.

'Too many hits with a snake.'

as the gene tells Aladdin.

Punch drunk,

by life's roller coaster ride,

I have often staggered

in a fugue,

not knowing where

I might find a safe port.

Falling, easily

into the sweet,

intoxicating breasts

of the next woman

who offers comfort;

until wham!

I am senseless with grief

at another loss.

Repeating the same mistake

of trusting fate,

of believing in fairies,

of sleepwalking

through life

perchance to dream

of love;

aye there's the rub.

The poem had a not happy tone to the words my friend.
"Repeating the same mistake
of trusting fate,
of believing in fairies,
of sleepwalking
through life
perchance to dream
of love;
aye there's the rub. "
I understand the above lines. Come a time when we accept less. Which is sad. Maybe we can find the perfect person and be content? Thank you John for sharing the excellent poetry.

You're welcome
"Aye there's the rub"- bugger that it always is! The tragic flaw of the Greeks- hubris, weakness- we are but mortal and you so eloquently present this opus. "Repeating the same mistake of trusting fate" yes... Love your Soliloquy!

Thank you so very much Annette.
Cleverly executed and highly imaginative stuff John. Your choice of content always interesting. The last line was a nice close. Good work.

Absolutely my friend. My pleasure
sounds like me...can't tell the poisonous snakes from the friendly ones...and i just jump in with my heart, and end up with as you and Hamlet expressed "just dreaming of love, but it's just a dream" and that IS the rub.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
