More Equal

More Equal

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Life is not fair!

"

More Equal

George Orwell struck a chord,

told a grain of truth,

a rich vein of learning for us all.

There is no such thing as equality,

nor fairness.

In this world there are the haves

and the have-nots.

There are the powerful

and the disempowered.

The rapist and the raped,

the killer and the victim.

The landlord and the tenants,

the famous and the unknown,

the boss and the workers.

Most accept their place

in the pecking order,

acquiesce to their fate,

the roll of the dice

that determines

wealth or poverty,

leader or follower,

winner or loser.

But I will never understand

how we stand by

and watch such inhumanity;

the slaughter, the hunger,

the abandonment

of our species.

We die a little every day. Perhaps we deliberately kill some part of our spirit, to become dull, insensate to the mayhem all around. Very concisely and powerfully written John.

Oh I totally agree ER. Many thanks.
We live in some disturbing times just how we are treating each other on a daily basis. It really is a rat race. I know we have had more harmonious times than these. Times to be proud of. There's always a new day so we keep pushing. Stirring material my friend. A pleasure to take part in.

I guess if Macron can start a new political movement in France then it can be done elsewhere?

there are always opposites and for those on the wrong end, there is so much suffering...and we have to wonder, what has happened to humanity...where has it disappeared to?

a heavy, but necessary poem--
you are speaking out, just as the Beats so often did...not afraid to say what needs to be said.

Thank you Jacob. I think most of us are afraid to face the facts and stand up and be counted.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
