Future World

Future World

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

We once thought the earth flat. What do we know?

"

Future World

Dunes are subject to the earthly clock

as shallow oceans come and go

to the moon's pale tunes.

An infinite sky

so close and full of stars

and yet so vastly distant,

even the brightest astronomer

cannot see the into the future.

We shrink into insignificance,

under that black velvet void,

our whimpered roar defied by the gods.

And yet we still serve them,

give them misguided devotion,

and slaughter in barbaric

brutal cause, in their names.

Our greed, our corporate avarice

is small minded and meaningless

when we consider,

that man has thus far

achieved little,

in the magnificent scheme of things

to come.

yes, we have achieved so little, considering all the years...and wow...all the things done in the name of some God...one who probably would refute the actions...
lots of slaughter, lots of violence...yes, we have achieved so little.

Ah but imagine. If we got the earth being flat so badly wrong, what else is beyond our comprehension.. read more
The only review I can give John, is I concur completely. The closer you look at life and the universe, each answer brings a dozen other questions.

' Our greed, our corporate avarice ~ is small minded and meaningless ~ when we consider .. '

When you write such poetry, your creativity takes wing. The heat and whatevers of your other poetry is bliss for some, but for the more serious, this is where your strength travels highest. Forgive me for being forthright.. but.. am not the only person who thinks that way. Hands up, folk!

As to your theme here, how right you are, John. We do shrink into insignificance. Daily, yes, daily, we create potholes in our earth's surface and selfishly will do so til it turns to sponge.... and filth. Those gods you mention have much to answer for - primarily because the planet was neither created by or for them..

Indeed Em you make such salient points. If we really cared we would act. Many thanks.

Man is so petty by nature. Seeks instant gratification not the greater good. I recently read someone describing mankind as a cancer on the skin of earth. Matter of time before she shakes herself violently enough to dislodge this pest for good!

I love the first line. Its poetically brilliant John. And the deep contemplation on man's ignorance, that disturbs a gentle, poetic soul.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
