Quisling

Quisling

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Betrayal

"

Quisling

You sided with the invader

who tried to subjugate my heart.

You told all my secrets

to the white stucco walls,

skulked in damp, dark, musty cellars,

and breathed in whispers of deceit

about my weaknesses,

so that I could easily

be vanquished.

Your collaboration

had no bounds

friendship, love

counted for nought in the end;

and you did this for what?

Other than your own furtherance.

There was a 'Lundy' here centuries before a Quisling appeared in Norway and this poem could scream way back to every period of history and will most likely be relevant for as long as man walks on the Earth...ergo it's timeless writing John.

Indeed Tony. Many, many thanks.
Oh! The dastardly complexion of the betrayer! You said it waaay better, but the point is clearly made. I liked this a lot: it was straightforward, and scene-descriptive that evoked immediate images in my head. *tipping my hat*

Many thank yous Carol
You told all my secrets
to the white stucco walls,
skulked in damp, dark, musty cellars,
and breathed in whispers of deceit
about my weaknesses,

I am left breathless by your ability to go so deep down into your rage and come up with such words cutting them down to pieces.... Always your fan.

The lesson I learn here is to never let anyone get the better of me, even at my most vulnerable.

You are welcome John...
That terrible invader of the heart! It is certainly responsible for a lot of heart-break. I hope she read this poem and felt guilty in her 'own furtherance'!

I knew you would relate to this Jacob and that makes me sad. Too much of this sort of thing happens .. read more
Powerful write John, on a subject too many people recognise. Do these wounds ever heal completely? I doubt it.
The worst of betrayal is knowing you will not be able to trust others as much again, through no fault of theirs, or yours.
Beautifully captured.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
