Longing

Longing

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Can't wait!

"

I cower

cloaked in heavy clothing

when winter cracks

her ice cold whip,

and breathes her frozen

air upon my world.

I was not made to endure

such a chilly wintry fate

as some may summon

with relief.

Me, I am warm blooded

and live to feel the sun

upon my skin,

bronzing and soothing

flesh I would easily bare

to golden solar rays.

I welcome spring

with joy in my heart,

as life returns to the earth

and the frosts retreat,

leaving a sigh of fresh buds

and high hope of summer

just around the bend.

Beautiful poem. The description and the longing for the spring season is wonderfully done. In India we don't exactly have a spring season but yaa I do wish to actually enjoy spring season. The time in between winter and summer is of that sort but not exactly spring.

Happy to know that you wish to visit India🙂
I can't wait for spring either John. I enjoyed your use of language and alliteration in this writing. I also enjoyed the contrast in temperature. You have also given your readers some fine imagery. I read your profile and see that both your son and daughter post here as well. Wonderful. All the best.

Too quickly by far John :)
Me too John. I need the days of Spring. Winter will hold on for another month or so. Today in Michigan. 10 below zero. Time to stay in the house. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

You are welcome John.
I've always been a winter person. Don't get the chance to dress in sweaters, scarfs and boots much here in San Diego, but the warmth of the sun sure feels good, like sand between the toes. Your diversity in your writing has always been something I admire, and its good to see you haven't missed a beat. Welcome back, my friend!

Thank you very much JungLee
i really like this, John.
i see it very much as allegory...i have had relationships similar to this...i kept waiting for the thawing spring to arrive. Bobby had such a great voice..."autumn of my life" my favorite song of his.
