Darwin Denied

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

How we force this square peg into a round hole!

"

Chained by

society.

Natural selection,

imperative to procreate;

'man's' joy!

Dam site...that was a pretty good review. Starting again. I quite like this, John, succinct and yet full of meaning.
Darwin came up with his 'theory' to appease the brain trust at the British Royal Academy of Science...or some fool thing...to maintain his financial support.
I want to know one thing about his "Theory"...when did it stop?

So let's all put round pegs in square holes and say...screw it.

Indeed so Ted. I guess most of us spend out lives in that particular pursuit. Many thanks.
You said a handful of words in the poetry. I been to places where we had to choose life or death for people. Too ill to heal, too broken to be fix. Your words made the reader think. Thank you John for sharing the amazing and powerful words.

You are welcome John.
A strong write John, you haven’t lost your touch. What came to mind with this write was the sense that nothing is for free, everything comes with a price tag, you reap what you harvest!

Pretty.much John just scribbling away but not as prolific these days. Hope you are well.
title hooked me my friend .. i believe his theories on the subject have been stretched far beyond his intent ... aside from that ... your poem (cinquaine) is really thought provoking for me ... i keep rereading it and see another aspect of it ... i suppose i am naturally selecting and rejecting my thoughts on its meaning .. i love how you address the issue of using 'man' in the universal context .. these days people can get so bent out of shape over it ... listening to the video now ;) my kind of beat my friend! (i played a trap set in high school ... we called ourselves the Midnight Walkers) ;) society does chain many things ... but it never can contain the survival of the fittest ..our business mode demands it in fact .. as does sports, and all the arts ... one must compete and excel ..spiritual mysticism is the only thing that free us up ... to have that experience of joy ... greed and selfish desire take us out of the ball park of joy ..very thought provoking write my friend ... i am going to try to take the meditation with me this morning

Hey thanks Dawn!
This is interesting was my first reaction after reading the title as being myself a biology student I really liked the title. I loved the way you used natural selection in the poem giving it a stylish touch. I also learnt the phrase square peg into a round hole and so thanks for using it. It's a nice piece and I really liked it👍

Many thanks Anjeline, glad you enjoyed this cinquain.
Blimey, you've given me some imagery there. You took me back in time. I was just walking past a building site, to a score of wolf whistles. I guess that's natural selection. I'll forgive the 'man's joy' because this is a cinquain and it had to fit. Liking your cinquains.
