Perchance to Dream

Perchance to Dream

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

No sleep of the just here!

"

In dreams

we can become

anything we want to,

so why are all my nights filled with

monsters?

Are you eating too much cheese before bedtime? Seriously though, if all your dreams turn into mares, that is awful. I rarely dream of monsters but do dream of drowning and being swept out to sea and hiding from people who want to hurt me. I also have nice dreams. Suggestions:play some soothing classical music before you nod off.

Ha, ha. Just poetic licence in use here Chris. I have a right mix of weird dreams. Many thanks.
You're economy of language here is incredibly powerful, and creates a palpable feeling of confusion. You've managed to capture an elusive 3am thought perfectly!

Many thanks Patrick. I used a lot of poetic licence in this one!
Maybe you should be careful of what you eat - before you go to bed.
I must say though, I've been having some strange dreams lately - thank goodness no monsters. Believe it or nor the other night I met Princess Di and she was as lovely as ever.

Take care - Dave

A very good point, which will no doubt keep me awake tonight :)
Even when life, love and other things beginning with L are moving along nicely, we get phantom screensavers screaming through our minds like its a direct portal to hell.

Your words have made me conclude that our minds and dreams may not be as random as we think, and that it is really run by the kind of people you wouldnt buy food from, for fear of where its been and what theyve done to it.
A prime example is how I gave up climbing because I had so many dreams of being stuck on ledges, cliffs, roofs, knowing I would fall, that it actually made me scared of heights. Well that and the fact its really hard, and my bones are beginning to creak...but its mostly the dreams fault.
Maybe if I dream how awful winning euromillions would be, I would no doubt win and find out :)

Ok will have a look. Thanks Ron.
Wow, this is so very true, we seem to direct ourselves towards darkness and upset. Instead of joy and happiness even in our dreams. Excellent point John. You're going from strength to strength. Exceptional stuff from you.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
