WaitingA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenNice to feel warmth creeping back!Waiting The once verdant lawn is mottled; greens and browns and yellows. Beneath the naked hazel lies piles of brown, crisp corn flakes of dead leaves. Small birds flit in and out deftly between the tangled branches to swiftly snatch a seed or nut or sunflower heart, from the many dangling feeders, dotted around the lawn. Larger birds swoop to scoop up the spillage, and a scurry of squirrels takes advantage of un-baffled feeding stations. We saw the parakeets and the greater spotted
woodpecker today, such excitement over breakfast as we wait patiently for spring and the warmth it will bring. The sun is still low, pale and shy, but I now feel its promise and soon I will again shed my winter coat. 06/02/19 © 2019 John Alexander McFadyenAuthor's NoteReviews
