On the Line

On the Line

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Look before you swallow!

"

An old trout was swimming

slowly down a stream,

on his mind

nothing other than

recurring dreams.

He dreamt he was a salmon

leaping high against the flow,

off up the raging river

his fishy seed to sow.

So he never saw it coming,

he never thought to look

as he gulped up that

Blue Damsel Nymph

and gobbled down

the hook.

I actually felt sorry for the fish. How sad am I? Good writing though, John!

He was a bit dozy. Many thanks Kelly.
I'm not really very much of a fish person. The last time I went fishing was off a dock in Florida. The first, and only fish, I caught was gobbled down by a huge pelican. I figure he needed it more than me, but I decided also that I wasn't going to be his supplier.

Take care - Dave

Only ever tried fishing once. I caught a conger eel, and it was bloody furious.
I think it's still attached to the rod I was using.
Fish shop only for me now.

There he was minding his own business, dreaming of being a salmon when he was hooked. Freedom gone. At least not for all of them. I have often wondered whether they feel pain. If I pondered on it for too long, I probably wouldn't enjoy my fish suppers. A short visual poem with some subtle rhyme in it.

Thanks Chris. I tried to put a hook in this one!
i always kind of wonder what goes through a fish's mind just as he or she is realizing the hook is set and the fish is toast...or fillet...:)
like "Whoops, what did i do that for?"
or one that might have been thrown back when smaller..."geez, i feel for that one again, even the same lure!"

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
