Life On The Ocean Top

Life On The Ocean Top

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

A swashbuckling we go!

"

Shiver me timbers!

I swears I spies Captain Jack,

tar upon his coat

smeared to keep him dry

as crashing bows swamp the deck

deep with salty brine,

and he so nimble

scales the ropes, like a monkey

with a scalded tail,

to reef the mainsail

and keep this sturdy, stout ship

running close to wind.

Good old Captain Jack

is the finest seafarer

I have ever known.

Seems he has no fear

when he is drinking whisky

or a tot of rum.

And when the Spanish

tried to overhaul his craft,

sank them everyone.

But on dry land our

fearless Captain of the waves

feels too much at sea!

Thank you Jacob. Not sure where you have me pigeon-holed as lacking in fun lol!
A fine swashbuckling tale is this. Scaling those ropes like a monkey and probably after consuming his rum as well. A visual and all action poem. I would imagine he was all over the place on dry land, and couldn't wait to return to the waves. Nicely conveyed lines John.

Great fan of the late great Bobby Darin.
Captain Jack would be fun to hang with. Could be a wild night. Nice tale written in the poem. All of us need a adventure and the sea. Thank you John for sharing the excellent poetry.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
