Emperors, Captains and KingsA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenLife is unfair for most.I lost my head, was decapitated just like King Charles. I don't care which one, but unlike him I have no royal blood, only the kind that spills needlessly upon muddy battlefields. For I am mere commoner, cannon fodder, sent into the fields of conflict as a marker for enemy fire. Forced to go hand to hand if I survive the onslaught of iron and lead, until either it is I or my foe who perishes. In the meantime, the emperors, the captains presidents and kings dine on fine wine and venison. 24/03/19 © 2019 John Alexander McFadyenAuthor's NoteReviews
