Very sad. One of the great places of beauty is gone. Many people have broken hearts. Need to fire proof the old ancient buildings.

It is sad but as one report said, cathedrals have burnt down throughout the ages and have been rebuilt.

and it appears much of it was saved, including many of the things inside....so that is a blessing.

Indeed but still lots of damage. Compared to the destruction of Syria it is a drop in the ocean though!

I didn't know. I have not watched the news but if this is fact I will be saddened. I visited Notre Dame with my Dad when he went on a business trip to Paris. I was 19 and we lit candles, such a lovely memory. We also visited La Sacre Coeur (forgive any spelling errors. Can't remember much of my schoolgirl French these days). Your senryu has given me some startling imagery.

The TV footage and the pictures are difficult to watch. Man is so helpless against the power of the elements. There is hope it has not been damaged beyond repair. Thanks Chris.
