Cleanse Me!

Cleanse Me!

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

'Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?'

"

Wash my sins

away.

Bring me back from

the abyss.

Do not let me fall

into Dante's infernal

inferno alone.

I will serve your will,

drink from your fountain,

kiss you at the edge

of your blue lake,

if only you would

absolve me from

this Catholic guilt.

Take this original sin

and make it old

forgotten news.

For I seek redemption,

I long for release

from these heavy chains.

To be purged

so thoroughly,

that the burden

that has weighed me down

since my ego was born,

would evaporate

like morning mist.

If all religion can do is make you carry around guilt, is it worth it? Supposedly all sinners are forgiven in religion....or so they say. A poem that elicits all sorts of emotion. You are so good in this genre. Lydi**

Such a heavy burden I felt here and a need for redemption. We are all sinners. Some don't care whether they are cleansed or not. I sense your Catholic faith engraving that guilt deep. I hope it lifts with the mist. Your lines are thought provoking. Good evening John.

Thank you.
i have looked deep inside to try to find forgiveness for my transgressions...i have had many....definitely in the Catholic sense, a sinner...and yet i must admit a cheeky smile that really hurts when i think of those we ask penance of...can be diabolical in their own deeds...Mortal sins for sure on their end...and they are stand-ins for God...Hmmph.......

really thought provoking and memory provoking write.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
