Gregorian Chant

Gregorian Chant

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

The mysteries of life?

"

Voices raised

to the very roof

of the cathedral

in adoration,

in supplication.

Sweet refrains,

the mantra

of the zealots,

made not for Him,

but for you.

Music to take you

to a place of worship

where you can commune

with the Lord,

where you may self flagellate.

Have you never worshiped Him,

felt His presence,

felt that nothing here

on earth mattered?

Felt your heart swell

and your soul float

towards heaven?

This greed filled world

distracts all

from having a relationship

with Him.

Lead us not into

temptation Lord,

but deliver us from evil.

But it is too difficult

these days,

as the earth melts,

to know what is evil

and what is not?

What started off as light and effortless imagery turned into a much deeper, heavier feeling. I like that you leave it open too for the reader to contemplate.

Thank you Kate. I have my strong views but I have no right to impose them.
things certainly do seem to be waxing ever worse all the time - the lines becoming more blurred. i like the chant rhythm and theme. nevertheless we must hold fast to immutable truth and continue fighting the good fight. nice, thoughtful, creative read ... :)

Wow I couldn't agree with you more... the lines get blurred more and more in society but your lines didn't! wonderful thoughts you placed here. Good to know I have some company out there in the digital ether...

Indeed BB the lines are now dotted and intertwined. Many thanks.
I agree my friend.
"But it is too difficult
these days,
as the earth melts,
to know what is evil
and what is not?"
The above lines are true and I hope. Maybe the Gregorian is being heard. Thank you John for sharing the amazing words and thoughts.

You are welcome John.
You make very good job here. I can hear Gregorian chant at my ears. Words are very meditative . Reader can feel vibrations of ancient times but even there was not clear who is evil or who is good.

Indeed there are many who profess to love their god while they destroy, kill and maim. Thank you Tho.. read more
i guess we need to pray "deliver us from whatever might be evil, whether it looks like it or not"
you are so right...can't tell anymore.
it is so covert. Good piece.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
