Changes

Changes

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Sometimes we lose sometimes we win, sometimes we lose.

"

The sun has been lost,

sucked up by a darker sky,

colder days return.

Could be bleak and suicidal, could be a simple observation, as our pagan friends would say, rejoice in the winter's cold embrace, the simplicity leaves the reader no choice but to think,

Indeed Shaz. Was written after a glorious Easter Weekend of sunshine followed by a cold snap!
Short poems are emotional concentrate. I like how you take a feeling that's not fact and let us see the despair.

Although I find them difficult to review, I adore short poems. With these lines you really proved that less is more.
Of course your writing is perfect, so I'd just like to point out how clever you've been in choosing the title and descriptions. You hinted at life changes and the up and downs of our existence, yet in your poem you decided to stick to whether images. Usually writers create metaphors and conclude with a final revelation, but you decided to do it the other way around (bringing to life the theme of change).
Beautiful piece.

Thank you. Inspired by a cold snap in the weather after a lovely bank holiday weekend.
Excellent haiku in that it is so clear but open at the same time. The literal and figurative swaying on the same tree and marrying the two worlds.

It is always hard to get used to beautiful weather and then be thrown back toward winter. I suppose that feeling operates on a psychic level as well. When we lose our equilibrium. Whether from the shock of human loss or action, or simply through the moving of our mind.

I like that this poem takes me all those places. Excellent space in these lines.

Thank you Eilis for such a considered and helpful review.
A sad reflection on life today. My earlier days seem a life time away. People were warmer and more caring. Something has certainly been lost. A strong message here John. Well conveyed and understood. Love Pink Floyd.

This is a nice little haiku -- I thought at first that it had something to do with the natural world, but the Pink Floyd video suggests otherwise. Definitely thinking of Syd Barrett reading this (Wish You Were Here)

yes, and this has nothing to do with nature...this is society today...it is so dark in its deterioration...

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
