King of Denmark

King of Denmark

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

History tells.

"

Yellow sand, sun warmed

but abrasive on the skin,

flows like water.

Upon the shore

a man stands

royal

looking out

to sea.

His heart beats

a rhythm of discontent,

a meandering river

of confusion.

The tide ignores

his pleas

and vies

for his crown.

The title could be anyone. Any man, not just king. We are often faced with choices and obligations that are less than favorable.
