Doubt

Doubt

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

When trust ebbs away with the tides of time.

"

Brittle water

spills in shards

of icy realisation

and punctures my skin.

I feel the pain invade

me deep

and I can hardly

fill my lungs with air.

Your distress morphs

and I become the foe

who must be quelled.

I become

the instigator

of your suffering heart,

of all the angst

and doubt

wracking your soul.

And you punish me.

Force your anger

in vitriolic words

down my throat

until I cannot breathe.

There is no shaking

your delusions

as I struggle

to keep my head

above the waves.

And thus

I look to the shore

and wonder,

if I can swim

that far.

When trust is broken there's no knowing whether it will ever be repaired. It is a long journey, some might not be prepared to take. If you take it, in some ways it can prolong the agony but can eventually make you stronger. Free verse at its best John. Good morning. Soulful music.

Indeed Chris, trust is a brittle piece of crystal. Many thank yous and top of the morning!
John,
A thrilling ride of dark shadows my friend. Trust, indeed can be broken in so many ways and the road back might not get you there.

You are welcome John.
Not the desired situation to be in. How doubt becomes an erosional emotion like a cancer spreading. Strong write John.

Aye indeed erosion can happen slowly then before you know it the banks are breached. Cheers Andrew.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
