Winning Big!

Winning Big!

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

I had a lucky dip on a lucky dip lottery ticket this morning and felt disappointed!

"

A lucky dip on a lucky dip!

Just about the size of it for me.

No big win,

but there again that's

been my life so far.

But why should I complain

when our streets

are full of human

detritus.

Real people with real stories

abandoned by family and friends,

forsaken by authorities,

told to 'move on'

with no place to go.

Why should I grumble

when our leaders leave

so many elderly

and disabled citizens

without proper social care,

their families alone

and distraught,

fighting to survive.

Why should I whinge

when all over the world

millions of children

starve

and, in many cases,

innocent humans

are bombed

out of their homes,

often left with permanent

mental and physical scars,

some literally without

a leg to stand on.

No why should I

feel hard done to?

In fact perhaps,

under these circumstances,

I have hit

the proverbial

jackpot!

John,
Well spoken! A thoughtful reflection on your "full" life as compared to the hurt, sorrow and emptiness of the less fortunate. As some have said . . . "There go I except for the grace of God."

To me true gratitude is the spice of life.
I think you have hit the nail on the head so to speak. We should thank our lucky stars at what we have, in comparison to the misery that some others have to endure. You set the case in stark reality for some. I'm not complaining. Good morning John.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
