The most colourful members of the crow family, jays are actually difficult to see. They are shy woodland birds, rarely moving far from cover.

A flash of bright blue

tells me a jay has landed

in my back garden to feed.

We have a small bird here, goes by the name Bem-te-vi. And its call sounds exactly like its name ; in Portuguese it means " good to see you". They are extremely shy birds and avoid people, they are every where on trees calling... and their call always puts a smile on my face. I can imagine your joy of seeing blue jay's visits to your garden.

A Jay Bird lived in the small copse of trees just outside our bedroom window in Virginia . . . noisy bugger, but I always love the sound of birds . . . especially in the spring when they sound like a mighty chorus.

Jays are shy and stick to woodland mainly so even though our garden is abundant in folliage we are so lucky the Jay comes every day several times. Manmy Thanks Tom

A very distinctive call and a beautiful flash of blue. I don't recall seeing these where I live. Maybe I should venture out into the woods more. Nicely done John.

Yes they are shy and woodland dwellers. We have a mature garden next to farmland and recently have had a Jay visit every day. So lucky we also have a variety of finches, including Bullfinches, and Woodpeckers. Just been out cleaning feeders as they were clogged and manky after all the rain. Many thanks Chris

You should get plenty of visitors if you put feeders out for them. Fascinating to watch their antics isn't it? Good afternoon John. We have had some afternoon sun, but it is very windy. Washing's pegged out :)

Well our day has been a good deal drier and I have managed to get all the feeders washed, disinfected, dried and filled as well as all the leaves and debris off the lawn in preperation for treatment then the heavens opened and made up for the dry spell lol!
