it's a matter of interpretation I suppose.
sometimes the snail is just shy and not teasing at all
this is a lovely example of how much people, men and women in particular, are not always on the same page and actions sometimes misinterpreted. :)
I do think I spotted a coy smile on this whelk though...

cheeky young man! prise them out indeed! ;) a few days ago, towards evening i glimpsed my first fire flies ... they will come in flocks over the next month or so ... whelks have been slugging it out for a spot on our deck for several weeks and soon will fade into these forests and mountains. did you know that these Ozarks use to be under a great ocean .. fossils are found all the time in evidence .. any way .. love your poem .. great use of the language .. makes me feel warm and chuckling ... stay the course John! thanks for sharing!

This little free verse offering made me smile this morning. It also reminded me of my Nan who used to buy whelks for Sunday tea and serve them with bread and butter. If I remember they were a tad too salty for my taste.
