A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

There is diversity in life but a life without love?

"

An empty page,

as meaningful

to a true philosopher

as one filled with

the most articulate

and beautiful of words.

A blank canvas

as colourful

to a thinker

as a Picasso

painted in blocks

of the brightest

colour.

A quiet room

as full of music

and laughter

and chatter

that any party

might offer,

to a contemplator.

An empty heart,

a dead page,

a torn canvas

a dank, dark

prison

for all.

A descent from hope to hopelessness, or close to it. I suppose it’s why we’re always looking for love. It’s what we need to survive, if not physically, perhaps emotionally. So much truth here!

Thanks R.E. exactly what I aimed for.
Interesting how the first three verses assert the possibility of perspective and individual interpretation, while the last verse presents a complete contrast. Appropriate, because an empty heart pleases no one of any inclination. Nicely and sparely worded, speaks a vital truth. Well done.

Yes was aiming to contrast the beauty of some mundane things with the hollowness of lacking love. Ma.. read more
As a master of the empty, dead page, the blank canvas, the quiet room, the empty heart, it's not a prison but a playground, to be enjoyed, beware the dogshit next to the torn canvas,

You stalking me buddy? But yeah love that playground. Cheers gram.
Nothing has the potential to become anything we want it to be.
That's the beauty and power of nothing.

Indeed Jacob. Many thanks.
John this poem hit me like a bullet to my forehead! I find a blank sheet of paper to be one of the most formidable of all things it taunts me and haunts me! Words, music, images, expressions... wanting to come out and dis play! There are times when I don't hear the music or link the lines to images and feel just that a dead, dank, dark, page just staring at me and blaring at me despairing me! Such a well put set of stanzas good sir. Perhaps at these times its good to know you are not alone in these feelings. tho when we are in the dark room the F.U response comes to the surface! The price of an introspective mind can sometimes be a high cost but the fruits are Myriad!!!! just like this write

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
