Into The Abyss

Into The Abyss

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

We are all determined by strands of DNA!

"

I am in a choke hold,

throttled by the very

life line of my own

blood line.

There the cracked mirror

holds my spirit

in a black pool

of suspended animation,

a replica of my heritage,

of all that DNA I have

absorbed.

The vomit of fear

rises in my throat

as I realise my destiny

does not have

a happy ending,

the page will turn

and I will be a smudge

of printers ink

as the book is

rejected,

unworthy for sale.

So here I am trapped

unable to cast off

these iron manacles,

unable to free myself

from the burden

of truth,

unable to shake

myself from these

dark, foreboding,

precast

shadows.

Who, just who

will save me

now?

Fear not, dude, D.N.A. will save you now, most of it is unknown and 90% is classed as junk, great poetic picture you paint, gazing into the Abyss as he turns his back on you, some lovely poetic lines, shame yer a mad man, lol

There is no saviour outside of you. That much I've learned. What we carry as heritage is just a possibility. There are so many other variables shaping our destiny. You have an amazing vocabulary and a highly skillful fashion of using it. I've enjoyed your writing. Thank you.

I do understand what you say about no saviour outside of you. First love thy self. Thank you for you.. read more
i know my reply, John will seem self-centered....but i relate to this poem...the DNA thing...my parents both lived to 92 and 97...and everyone says..."wow, you have good genes and will live to a really old age"---but that actually scares me...i don't want to live if i can't take care of myself...and i watched both of them lose it...as they grew into their 90's---there is living and just existing...i don't want to just exist.
