Why I Write

Why I Write

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

I have Jacob to thank for this self reflective piece.

"

I stand

sometimes firm,

sometimes weak,

sometimes shaken,

often in love

and in joy.

I am a passionate man,

with an emotion filled breast.

I stand in principle and in anger

and I look.

I feel.

I write.

I scribble thoughts upon

the flags stones

of poetry

and hoist them

high

up the mast

for all my peers

to see.

Hoisting flagstones of poetry
in passion and anger and …
a heavy toll upon thy shoulders,
you write because you must
you write because you can
you write dyslexic night shame blues
you write because you are,
you are a writer, dude,
and have a savage beating
heart, full of fun and empathy
and a dirty dog's gone blues
licking your own balls,
who could disagree,
you write because you have to,
you have no
f*****g choice...
thoughts recede and cede.

Streamline with feelings and adorned with reality, this piece opened my eyes to see what I'm actually doing here. Sharing my thoughts and freeing my mind. Sometimes I may do that rightly and sometimes I may be wrong.

A good piece.

Aye that flag must fluter in the winds. Many thanks Cherrie.
For a long time after I started writing, I couldn't accept the title of being called a writer or being praised even for what I wrote. Now that I do, I realize it is exactly like how you say - 'scribbling thoughts upon the flag stones of poetry'. ..
Nicely penned.

No apology needed. I have missed many old friends and thought it the work of my troll!

Yeah, sure.
I love how you have conveyed with passion how you feel and act as a writer. You are compelled as I am. I have no idea where it comes from, it just happens. Wonderful free verse John.

Thanks Chris. Yes it simply comes and from all sorts of stimulants.
I can’t say anything more than what gram just wrote it is a sickness that you have might as well just move on to acceptance:/

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
