This Chalice

This Chalice

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Convention and collective societal control fly in the face of our true needs.

"

Do not defy my destination

for I and destiny are at one

as all is wrapped in a flurry

of morning mists

that evaporate

before our lust has cooled.

Why, oh why must guilt

tattoo his weary form

upon my skin?

Why must what we share

seem so shallow

to others

when it is bursting

with energy,

burning hot

and has the essence

of life and hope and

excitement dripping

from its lips?

No let it be

what it is.

We can sip from this

vessel the sweet wines

of our entanglement

and drink deep of

such beautiful desire

until we are both

completely

and utterly

intoxicated.

I find I must be careful with this review, John. I would totally agree that sexual love is a grand gift, an extention of our spiritual lives. But when passion is nothing but lust we are acting out of only one part of our being . . . the physical. I believe within the context of human love and commitment all that a couple shares in sexual union is sacred . . . when the senses go beyond what our body feels to include what our soul and spirit experiences . . . it's almost an act of worship before God. This is well written. I would certainly agree that what you do with your body is your own business . . . I or anyone have no right to condemn, and yes . . . we were created with a need for sexual union . . .

Intoxication is fine, fabulous feeling providing it isn't hurting others. Maybe that's where the guilt sets in, fear of being found out. This read like an affair to me John. Very nicely conveyed, passionate lines. Loved the metaphor.

well, those on the outside never really know how the two feel when together...only they do.

It is easy from the outside to criticize, to judge...to laugh at the love and call it just a crazy crush...they don't know...i like the metaphor of being drunk on love...
just don't drive!
