Morning Sun

Morning Sun

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

My morning, 1st July 2019

"

Five AM.

A new day is born

as the sun slowly washes

up the grey-blue sky

in cool yellows

at first,

 then bursts

out in hot

July orange,

spilling warm rays

that splash

and spread across

the fields

onto my lawn.

The garden birds

welcome it

with their

morning songs,

shrilled from atop

clay tiled roofs

and the uppermost

branches of the

silver birch.

I watch them,

swooping in

for a beak of

seeds or nuts

or sunflower hearts.

Some clever corvids,

crows and magpies

mainly,

able to negotiate

the feeders

as others

wait expectantly

on the ground.

The tits and chaffinches

and dunnocks and robins

darting in and out

or scouring the earth

for a fallen feast.

There is a beautiful

silence,

no sound

other than the birds

and the soft breeze

ruffling the plants

and bushes

and trees.

No human

movement in sight.

Neighbours

are yet to stir,

cars stuck fast

on front drives,

though the dogs

next door

are by now

beginning

to demanding

attention.

No polluting noise,

no motor engine sounds,

no farm machinery,

no aircraft cutting white ribbons

across the blue vista.

Only serene stillness,

like the mirror glass

surface of a swimming pool

before bathers arrive.

I drink in my fortune

at being a witness

to it all

and draw strength

from the undiluted

richness of dawn

as my first cup

of tea

reaches

my lips.

I am reminded of the old Cat Stevens song, "Morning has Broken." A wonderful pastoral on the intoxicating experience of early morning.

One of my favourite times of day. I usually rise by 05:00. I did think to attach the Cat Stevens son.. read more
This is wonderful;
a beautiful poem to be precise.
It is always a beautiful experience
to witness the smiling sun rising,
holding my cup of coffee,
feeling the warmth it brings along,
and getting ready to go to work.
It also reminds me that,
a new day brings new opportunity,
like a new chapter,
It brings along its own meaning.
Truly I like this,
It's a piece that describes so well its meaning.

It's my pleasure and I think everybody needs to.
Beautiful poetry. You took me there with this one John. That time of day, before everyone else stirs, is the best in my opinion. Lovely nature poem, with all that birdsong. Delightful. I appreciated the Cat Stevens, Morning Has Broken as well. A favourite of mine.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
