Metzgerhund

Metzgerhund

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Those black dogs..................................................................................

"

There is no misery

like that brought

by the black dogs.

They throw

the rabid cloak

of darkness

over ones eyes,

cut out the light,

cut off the oxygen of life

and destroy all the hope

that ever there was.

They suck the glow

from the soul

through blackened

dead eyes

that penetrate

deep into the psyche.

Their haunting howl

shatters the hearts

of all who hear it,

they devour

the intestines

of their victims,

leaving nothing

but dried ash

and the stench of

their putrid canine

breath,

as though only

hell awaits

those who see them.

Aye and there is a large pack of them on the loose roaming wild. Many thanks Cherrie.
Ah . . . the Black Dog!!! Visited me 40 years ago. I kicked at it but didn't go away . . . tried to ignore it . . . bit my behind. Threw pills at it . . . it just ducked . . . Finally its ugly master called for it to come home. Later it went looking for my youngest daughter . . . caught her by the pant cuff, pulled her away from the sunny path . . . she'd get away for awhile, only to be caught again. The black dog knows his prey well. Interesting poem John.

Depression is such a emotionally crippling condition... you give clearly a description of how it takes hold of ones life . It is frightening and heartbreaking. Your poem is an eye opener for me, John.

I have seen the black dogs, I've inhaled the rancid mind and for my sins, I showed some fear and those black hounds are chasing me still, loved this, thought you might have meant schwarzerhund, until I googled butcher dog, a multilingual cunning linguist indeed,

I would have looked up the number for a stud farm, each to their own,
How well you write about the arrival of the black dog which sucks all the life out of you and spits you out without mercy. My meetings with him are less these days, but you never willingly cross his path. Fine free verse which will be relatable to many. Enjoyed the music too.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
