Emoting Emotions

Emoting Emotions

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Thanks for the title Jacob!

"

I turn words

into bullets,

or scythes

or hammers

and use them

indiscriminately

to puncture

the flesh or others.

To prick the skin,

the conscience,

the guilt

harboured

within the concrete

breast plates

of the zombie

nations we have become

as we bow in supplication,

offer fealty,

to the cause célèbre

of this retarded,

celebrity centred

world .

I turn words

into feathers,

rose petals and

white doves,

love arrows

sent upon

a warm breeze

to scoop up

the hearts

of the romantic

souls,

who believe

in fairies and

who still

roam the earth

in search

of love.

I turn words

like a potter

forms lumps

of clay,

teasing them

into shape,

trimming them,

before glazing

and firing them

in the heat

of the glare

of fellow poets.

I turn words

to turn myself

inside out,

to explore

meaning.

To help me

understand

myself,

to express

the deep rooted

emotions

that no one

else wants to

hear.

I came upon this the other night, John...it's just taken me a minute to get back to it and leave some thoughts. I really like the creativity. The way each section goes through a different facet of the writer's craft and brings us the the end--what sometimes seems the pinnacle of creativity--self-expression.

I think we probably go through all these stages on our journey as writers--employing those different tools and methods to try and effect change or simply be understood. It's like a second lifecycle being a writer. You learn so much about yourself and others.

Great choice of images in this one. Powerful. I really enjoyed the reading.

True creativity with words. A poet can turn them into anything he wants. You can do that. Excellent piece.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
