Eulogy to Death

Eulogy to Death

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Just sometimes...

"

The warmth of rust

washes through

my bones

as sun and moon

vie over

day-light tones.

I feel the breeze

of words, echo

through my heart

as I watch the door

through which

my hope departs.

An empty casket

smiles in malignant

salutation,

offering solitude,

and respite

to welcome resignation.

And I hear the tympani

that plays

death's tune

as I slip from a life

filled with so

much gloom.

So let no sad tears

fall upon the sands

of days,

for I will

take all shadows

with me

when I'm still.

A truly amazing piece of poetry.

There’s this strange longing for death in this one which I think cannot be felt by everyone. Maybe, its vibe just attracts the likes.

Keep up the good work, John.

I did enjoy and you are welcome.
I can feel the tone of a voice fading into a form of gloominess with hope departing just in haste as the narrator in his sadness still struggling trying to keep himself calm as he found himself slowly drowning into the ocean of age that swallow men regardless of who and what they are.

Well written, John.

Indeed so and I am amazed we as humans try to avoid death as inevitable. Many thanks Kay.
This is quite haunting. The lines express an almost longing desire of life in the description of such finality.

I try not to travel to thoughts of my own demise but I can't help feeling that all of us give some thought to this as we advance in years. Reading through these well crafted lines that's exactly where you took me. I hope when I do go I go with a smile on my face and not reflecting on life's glooms. Free verse at its best.

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
