Haze

Haze

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Too many late nights!

"

Yesterdays poetry

coats my mouth,

thick and dry

like on a morning after

too much

beer and whisky.

I try to remember

where the words

came from,

how they spilt

from my pen

over the wet

pages,

but recall

is sparse.

My head pounds,

filled with regret,

I am nauseous, tired

from another

late, late night.

Did I really

say those things,

or was it

false memory

from lack of sleep

and over stimulation?

But there they are,

those words,

in front of me,

staring at me,

guilty as hell.

I promised myself

that I would

not get so

intoxicated

again;

that I would not let myself,

drunk on emotion,

spew forth

so freely.

But now here I sit

simply staring

at the words

that seem so distant,

as though someone else

wrote them,

and once again

I pledge an oath

of abstinence

I know I dare not

keep.

Grreat poem, John, most of my writing is writ by some other f****r while I am passed out in the street, waking up with a handful of ink stained toilet paper and regret

Aye, very f*****g good,
The 12 steps rules of the pen, I say fall off the wagon and let the words flow, served neat.

Ah you are a risk taker then Cherrie! Many thank yous.
That's how it I feel as a writer too.
After writing a poem, I would ask myself that where are this word really coming from, because by myself, I'm not eloquent enough but I realized that something that makes me me makes me write something out of me.
And this Me that is in me I guess will never let me stop writing, no matter how much I try.

Beautifully constructed, John.
I enjoyed your use of words.

There you have it. A man intoxicated with words. Suffering from a hangover the next day after a hard night writing. He says he isn't going to do it again but I don't believe him :) Super free verse.

and yet to me, this is a writing hangover....only from drinking in inspiration...and forgetting where we were the night before...as we were in that writing stupor...

Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
