Happy Daze

Happy Daze

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Ah gram hope you get home safe!

"

Indeed you stole the mirror

but not its reflection;

but now you have

its black intentions

in your heart

as you stare deep

into the smeared glass.

There in the glazed frame,

hanging askew

upon the crumbling

tenement wall,

is a vacant lot

filled with all the

hammer house horrors

that ever roamed

any dank, dreich, dirty

city street.

Heavy metal Geordies

haunt your dreams

as they roam Quayside

seeking your footprints

along Hadrian's Wall Path,

to avenge defiled daughters

and bruised egos.

Meanwhile you are in

a trucker's cafe,

somewhere on the A1,

drinking builders tea

and eating square sausage

with blood black pudding.

Don't get the context, but it's well written John. By the way . . . over here A1 is steak sauce.

Hmm...
This beautiful expression took my mind far into the wilderness of love where two lovers seems to have be done who is in the garden.
The heart was stolen, yet the memory of the togetherness won't stop reflecting the past.
What their love left behind was so incredible to gaze on.

Well written, John.

the love is unrequited Kay, but it is there simmering just below the border,
ahahaha give it to him John! he deserves it eh!? .. so dear gram is on a jaunt defiling maidens from reality shows huh!? well .. every man ... and woman ... for him/herself says i .. in this rollicking, dark, poking fun at our Mr. Gram ... hope he's reading this as he eats his blood :)))))))))))))) i love this poem .. don't know gram as well as you but enough to know he is chuckling and planning a sharp retort .. your work with the mirror, tenement walls and glazed frame window are stunning all fun aside .. you could easily turn this down a Poe street and leave the reader trembling ... nice work all around says i!?

ps. who doesn't love Happy Days .. the contrast does put me in a daze tho ..

Doesn't bear thinking about!
I enjoyed this particularly as it was written with gram in mind. Your third stanza and its references to historical events in the deep rooted past raised both an eyebrow and a smile :) An excellent write with vivid imagery of a down but not out city. I wish my friend over the border enjoyable breakfasts.

I think he escaped up the A1 towards Scotland lol. Thanks Ron, hope you are well.
I must admit I don't get several references in this poem, but as you know, every reader has his/her own interpretations. I read about an evil soul who has destroyed others, certainly those who might have trusted him, and the narrator is telling him he'll get the fate he deserves in the end.

The final stanza/scene could be from a horror movie, the trucker a serial rapist or killer, who is calmly dining after taking his most recent victim. The only "happy daze" here is the delusional view of twisted individual. An artful, vivid poem packed with imagery and emotion.
