Affairs Of (The United) State(s)

Affairs Of (The United) State(s)

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Apologies to our cousins across the pond!

"

So American politics

is a two 'horse' race,

The Republicans

or the Democrats.

But who the hell

wants to follow

an elephant

or a donkey?

Whatever happened

to that splendid

bald bird of prey,

the symbol of nationhood,

that graceful, beautiful

predator who soars

high in the blue, blue sky,

looking down upon the earth

with an eagle eye?

Indeed there are many

noble creatures

on the earth

that could represent

a party better than

two cartoon effigies.

Don't the American people

see the irony of following

party animals

strait out of Aesop's Tales?

Worse still it seems

as the 2020 election

between the donkeys

and the elephants

is destined to be won

by a geriatric!

Politics has never been so gut wrenching, both in the States and in the UK. Be careful where you place your vote is what I say. Free verse with excellent flow stating how things are. Good morning John.

I think it is obvious that the donkeys and the elephants are not following the Eagle...
they are ignoring it...badly.
