The Shrew and the Lion

The shrew returns!

A shrew met a lion one day, resting in a jungle glade,

both had travelled there to try and get some shade.

Said the lion to the shrew "Good day to you my dear!"

"May I enquire as to what has brought you here?"

 

"Ah my good sir," replied the shrew, coy as ever,

"I came to this place to shelter from such hot and steamy weather."

"Then indeed you are most welcome little friend." he replied,

"Your comfort and your welfare are not to be denied."

 

"Now come a little closer dearest one, and I'll explain,

I really wouldn't wish your journey to have been in vain."

"Oh good Sir, and King of the jungle too," she replied, "It's just a hunch

but should I get too near, you might just eat me for your lunch!"

This piece was really entertaining. And it made me smile. A witty piece of poetry indeed. It would certainly make a good set of poems for kids. Hope you are thinking along those lines, if you haven't already. I see a story book of poetry for kids. You can title it: The Misadventures of the Shrew!
