Mother QueenA Poem by John Alexander McFadyenThe Second Elizabethan era ended.Your
Majesty, I never
thought you would die. Well I did,
you were ninety-six and I had
watched you age, watched you
go grey, develop a
stoop, watched you
shrink and become
less mobile. You reminded
me of my own mother, who was so
like you, both in
looks and in her devoted service to
her family. I watched
her go grey too, watched her
develop a stoop, watched her
shrink and fade
under the scalpel that was
meant to excise her cancer. May you both
rest in peace. 09/09/22 © 2023 John Alexander McFadyenReviews
